About the Event
The former St. Mary's church is normally closed to visitors so take the opportunity to explore this beautiful space and let us know if you have a connection to it.
This Grade I listed sanctuary holds secrets waiting to be discovered. Marvel at the intricate medieval roof with its decorative bosses, and wander among an extraordinary collection of 72 monuments and cenotaphs spanning four centuries of history, from the 1500s to the 1900s including the notable Gamul tomb, testament to the families and stories that have shaped this sacred space.
Do you have your own connection to St. Mary's? We'd love to hear your story and discover how this remarkable church has touched lives across the generations.
A drop in zine (mini magazine) workshop will be available for visitors to the building as part of the 20,000 Women Zine Project. The project aims to collect stories about women and girls living in Cheshire in 2026. It seeks to redress the historic imbalance in archives, where women’s experiences have too often been overlooked or left out. For further info visit: Archives in Action:
