About the Event
Step into two millennia of Chester's history with a remarkable new map created by Dr Tom Pickles and Prof Katherine Wilson of the University of Chester. This meticulously researched work charts the city's extraordinary evolution from Roman legionary fortress to modern cathedral city, revealing layers of history beneath your feet.
Join us for special pop-up sessions in the streets where the map's creators and experts bring this treasure out of the classroom and into Chester's historic streets. Explore how the walls were built and rebuilt, discover lost religious buildings that once dominated the skyline, trace the development of the famous Rows, and uncover surprising industrial heritage hidden in plain sight.
With the richly illustrated gazetteer in hand, ask questions, share stories, and see Chester through fresh eyes as academic research meets street-level discovery. Stand where Romans marched, medieval merchants traded, and Victorian industry thrived - all mapped out before you.
A unique opportunity to explore Chester's complete story with the experts who pieced it together, right where history happened.
