About the Event
To close Rowvember in style, we’re unlocking one of Chester’s most remarkable hidden spaces.
Many will fondly remember it as the Café in the Crypt at Browns - a much-loved spot for a cuppa beneath the bustle of Eastgate Street. But since the closure of Debenhams, this medieval crypt, with its stunning stone vaulting dating from around 1300, has been out of sight to the public.
Now, for one hour only on the final day of Rowvember, you’ll have the very first chance to step back inside and see it for yourself. Whether you have memories of visiting the café or you’ve never been down there before, don’t miss this rare opportunity to see over 700 years of history up close.
With thanks to Eastgate Square for allowing access.
Please note: Entry may be managed at busy times depending on numbers, so you may need to wait a short while. The entrance is below H Beauty on Eastgate Street at the gated entrance.
